This scene was written for a workshop called Missoula Colony 6 Back to Basics. I had to come up with three plot ideas and pitch them to a group of fellow workshop partisipants and on teacher. Then the group decided which of the three should be done. Afterwords a panel of 5 writers/teachers chose the scene from each of our stories that had to be written in three pages, no more, no less. My story was about Mars, the god of war being banished to earth and becomeing a peace neck fighting agencest the Viatnam War. The scene I was assigned to write was when Mars first meets his love intrest. The next day the scenes were read in groups. Then the teachers chose five or six out of almost fifty scenes that would be read at public reading that evening. Mine was one of the onces seleced. |

INT. MARK'S APARTMENT - DAY MARK TELOFF sits in a corner chair asleep. His eyes bolt open. He looks both ways. He doesn't know where he is. He's disoriented. Someone KNOCKS on the door. Mark looks at the door but does not know what to do. The KNOCKING continues. He slowly, cautiously, approaches the door. Quickly he opens it to find a startled JUDY KENT standing, holding a dish. MARK Who are you? JUDY I am Judy. I'm from the welcoming committee... Welcome! MARK To what? JUDY To Dunmoor Apartments. MARK Oh... Thanks. Mark starts to close the door. JUDY Aren't you going to tell me your name? MARK Mars- Mark... Mark He continues to close the door. JUDY I made you a peach cobbler. Would you like to have it? Slowly, Mark slowly reopens the door, to take the cobbler. After he takes the cobbler he doesn't know what to say. An awkward moment is created. MARK Would you like to come in? JUDY (Jumps on it) Yes! Please. CUT TO: INT. MARK'S APARTMENT - LATER Mark looks through his cabinets and is surprised when he finds some dishes that he can use. JUDY So... Where are you from? MARK (Want's to hold back) Olim...pia. JUDY Washington? MARK Yes. JUDY What did you do in Washington? MARK I was with the church... Look I don't know about any of the other tenants but I like to stick to myself and don't want to take part in any planned community back yard hoe-downs... I'm just not like that. JUDY (Teary eyed) So you didn't like the peach cobbler? Mark just has never had to deal with anything like this before. MARK It's fine. JUDY You see, I just really love politics to death and all, you know. But all the big spots, president, vice president were taken, all they had left was the welcoming committee, and you know... I just thought it might really be a a great chance. I could get to know the constituents and be the first to welcome the new ones to Dunmoor Apartments and then they would vote for me so I could get a better seat... Like treasurer! Judy looks at mark who does not look happy. JUDY (CONT'D) Well just remember. (Wiping a tear) Vote Judy... I'll show myself out. Judy walks to the door with Mark glaring at her the whole time. FADE TO BLACK.
